The impact of climate change has escalated over the years, and it won’t be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, based on studies and expert insights, the worst damages of the most life-threatening phenomena known to man could rise up to 10 times more in the year 2100. Soaring atmospheric temperatures, hundreds of kilometers of melting ice caps, and rising number of diseases are only few of the adverse effects of climate change.

Not only our environment will bear the brunt of climate change but economic losses and energy industries will be counted as casualties as well. Human activities such as deforestation, desertification, and excessive use of fossil fuels must be cut down or better yet, eliminated.

Many organizations have already expressed and shared their causes to people who want to advocate for a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment. While these organizations have a wider scope and could accumulate an intensified impact to help nature, there is still the question on how to act against climate change on a personal level. Researchers have narrowed it all down to this – reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Swapping out your plastic straws for metal ones, or changing your old lightbulbs for efficient ones may lessen the carbon footprint you leave behind, but only with low to moderate impact. Researchers and scientists strongly suggest making sure to mix small interventions with a few bigger ones to boost the positive impact we contribute.

Big, impactful interventions include living car free, avoiding transatlantic flights, and eating plan-based diet, according to studies. These actions, however, create conflict. Most of the solutions to reducing carbon footprint are ones we usually avoid. But if you wish to push through with your personal advocacy of fighting climate change on your own terms, here are the following small acts you do:

  1. Change old light bulbs to new and more efficient ones
  2. Hang clothes to dry in the air and sun instead of using a dryer
  3. Reduce, reuse, recycle
  4. Use cold water on clothes
  5. Invest in a hybrid car and drive a more energy-efficient car
  6. Switch your diet to plant-based
  7. Buy green energy
  8. Lessen transatlantic flight by at least one
  9. Plant more trees and other greeneries
  10. Buy food and other products in reusable or recyclable packaging

The call to fight against climate change and its adverse effects on nature and mankind is one all of us should heed. One small positive multiplied by hundreds of millions of people around the world is hundred times better than doing nothing at all.
