The word eco-friendly has never been used as often and as popularly as in this generation. It’s a term that often tails products that aim to benefit the world we live in. Although its popularity also meant that climate change has become an even bigger threat than ten years before, “eco-friendly” is the key word that everyone should practice in their daily lives.

If you hope to become one of earth’s warriors, these are the daily habits you should practice:

  1. Be conscious. Always.

Whether you’re buying food or shopping for new outfits, being conscious of the things you put into your body and the purchases you make makes all the difference. The simplest decision of choosing not to have your purchases in a plastic bag every time you shop lessens the waste you otherwise will accumulate over the years.

  1. Find ways to recycle.

It’s not that it can’t be recycled; we’re just too lazy to think of ways to make it work. Numerous videos of animals regurgitating tiny bits of plastic have been circulating online and it should be one of the several causes to be worried about. We’re not simply throwing away our waste; we are feeding them into the bodies of unwitting animals who think its food. Really, when you throw waste improperly, it’s a weight on your conscience. But before you do recycling, make sure to do your research first so you don’t make unnecessary extra damage.

  1. Organic isn’t always the answer.

It has often been said that when you go organic, you are helping preserve mother earth. Well sometimes this is not the case. Contrary to popular belief, going organic produces more carbon foot print. Usually fruits and vegetables are free of pesticides and insecticides but most of these organic food are imported. Importation involves miles of long-distance travel, and therefore, exhaust fumes. It’s one think to keep in mind. The better alternative? Buy local.

  1. Reduce food waste

You love food, we know. Everyone does. But that doesn’t give you an excuse to buy more than what you actually consume. Food takes several resources, processes, and manufacturing to produce. So before you buy kilos of whole wheat granola, make sure to eat all of it. Letting it go uneaten and rot equals to a lot of food waste.

One of the best perks of being alive in this generation is the amount of information we have at our hands. The internet has connected us with people previously beyond our reach. But it also has become a warehouse for knowledge we can make use to preserve our planet. Do your research; give time to act on climate change. We only have such a short time before it becomes unpreventable.
